Light wind Kiel week
The Kiel week took place this year from 17.6. to 21.6.2023 in World Cup format. All Olympic boat classes, except Formula Kite, therefore sailed their races simultaneously in the first part of the KiWo. Four days of racing with 12 races plus one day of Medal Races were planned, but due to weak and inconsistent winds, not a single race was started the first two days in the 49er FX. On the following days we managed 7 races in light wind conditions. At the beginning our placements were in the front second half, but towards the end we improved in many areas and even sailed a third place. Unfortunately we did not qualify for the Medal Race on the fifth day, but we went home with a huge gain in experience and are looking forward to next year. By the way, a Medal Race is a race for which the best 10 boats of the World Cup qualify and in which the medal ranks 1,2 and 3 are at stake. The points count double (10th place = 20 points) and therefore many things can still shift in the results.
We are looking forward to some more training here in Warnemünde before our season highlight the youth world championships take place in summer.
