AMAL ZSCHECH
HELM
I am Amal Zschech, 18 years old, and I live in Berlin. I started sailing young, but only began sailing competitively with the age of 12, when I tried the 29er for the first time. Before the 29er I sailed in a variety of different classes but what I really wanted was speed. The 29er skiff offers exactly that and has been a lot of fun for me since day one. In the past five years of 29er sailing I have gathered a lot of experience, but most importantly always had the possibility to get away from the stressful world on shore. Sailing is like being in another world full of action, speed and in continuous contact with the beautiful elements of nature.
Throughout my 29er career I have been sailing with several different partners, most recently the partner I had sailed with for over two years quit, which left me with looking for a new crew. Leander and I had planed to sail together for a while already, because we seemed well adapted to each other according to our coach. In fall 2021 we finally teamed up and established the successful Zschech Baumann Racing Team.
When I am not sailing I enjoy to drum at BAM!, a drumming group based in Berlin that regularly cooperates with well known artists. I love the rhythm, a feature that is present both while drumming and sailing.
Currently I am in my second year of a vocational training to becoming product designer and will finish in 2024. While I am focused on my education and reaching good marks, I am nevertheless always able to concentrate on sailing.
My greatest passion remains to be sailing. My life builds up around it and I am enjoying everything every bit of it, leisurely sailing on Sunday afternoon and stressful situations at regattas. My biggest dream is to start to sail the 49er skiff and compete for Germany internationally, but a evenly important goal is to do everything in my power against the pollution of the beloved waters and nature of this planet.
