18th at the EC el Balís
The Eurocup in el Balís was a great success and the perfect way to start the new season. We had great weather and strong, stable winds that allowed us to take advantage of our skills and weight to secure good results.
At first we had to tank a rather poor start into the competition. Due to an early the race we had finished third was disqualified. Because only three races were sailed on the first day, we moreover did not get our worst result eliminated yet, which lead to us ranking in the 50’s. The second day allowed for a change in results with another three races in top conditions and gusts of up to 25 knots. On the third day we sailed only one race in shifty conditions which we finished 4th improving our rank even further from 18th to 17th overall. The last day presented similar winds, but sunny weather, challenging the race committee to complete a fair race, but the eighth race was sailed leading our rank to drop back to 18.
Nevertheless we experienced a great atmosphere at the event with ambitious sailors from all over the world and are looking forward to sail the world championship on the same waters. We are glad about our result, but also know that we could have done better. We will work on improving our skills and eliminating our obstacles during our next training block in Hyères very soon.
