Effective winter hours
Like every year, our winter training took place in Barcelona, Spain. Our boats were already waiting for us when we arrived on the 17th of December. The temperature was pleasant, and the winds varied. The mornings usually allowed for great conditions even though they were quite cold. We took advantage of these cold mountain winds and usually trained during the early hours. After a lunch break with warm food, we always tried to go sailing a second time, but often the winds were weak. One of the skills we managed to train effectively was steering out waves and being able to maintain perfect speed while sailing against the wave.
We left our boat in Barcelona over Christmas, when we joined our families to celebrate. We returned on the 27th of December and stayed in Barcelona for another week to continue training. Because we were less boats, we were able to focus more specifically on us, but also had the possibility to train with other teams, who are not our usual training partners. We sailed with teams from the Netherlands, Hungary and Baden Wurttemberg. This allowed for exchange of techniques and experience that lead us to reconsider how we do certain things and try out new settings throughout the week.
With our winter training done, we are prepared for our first competition of 2022, the Eurocup in el Balís.
